Pep Guardiola expects Mikel Arteta to travel with Manchester City’s squad for their Carabao Cup tie at Oxford on Wednesday, despite his assistant coach holding talks over the Arsenal job.
Arteta took part in City’s training on Tuesday ahead of the quarter-final at Kassam Stadium but Guardiola is unsure whether he will stay with the Premier League champions.
“He’s talking with Arsenal so I don’t know what is going to happen,” said Guardiola. “He’s travelling (to Oxford).
“We were so smart to pick him up and now the other clubs want him. I’ve said many times, he’s an incredible person, a good manager, work ethic, that is why he is with us.”
Arteta held talks with Arsenal managing director Vinai Venkatesham and director of football operations Huss Fahmy, who were pictured outside the Spaniard’s home in the early hours of Monday.
