One of Donald Trump’s personal assistants, Nick Luna, has tested positive for coronavirus.
Mr Luna had travelled with the President several times recently, a White House official said on Saturday night.
The official was not authorised to discuss the matter by name and requested anonymity.
Despite its failure to protect the president and senior staff from infection, the White House has given no indication that it intends to make any major protocol changes, such as mandating that everyone wears a mask.
Jennifer Jacobs, a senior White House reporter for Bloomberg News jumped on social media to say that Mr Luna, “as bodyman”, works in “very close proximity to the President, so it’s not surprising”.
“Another factor that is unsettling White House aides tonight is Nick Luna is married to Cassidy Dumbauld, who is an aide to Jared Kushner. More people in the circle around Trump’s senior adviser diagnosed with coronavirus,” Ms Jacobs tweeted.
Mr Kushner is Ivanka Trump’s husband and a Senior Presidential Adviser.
